- This position is funded by a federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant. The grant period is 10/1/24 - 9/30/27. The continuation of the position beyond the end of the grant period is uncertain and dependent on various factors.

OVERVIEW AND ROLE SCOPE OF TEAM AND/OR TASKS
The Crisis Clinician provides immediate support and intervention to students experiencing a mental health crisis, promotes safety and stabilization, and facilitates a path to recovery. This position requires evaluating student of concern's current mental health status, de-escalate and stabilize students in crisis, determine the most appropriate level of care, and safety plan as needed.
- Decision-Making: Coordinate and/or conduct welfare checks and psychiatric holds when necessary
- Collaboration: Provide consultation and support to CMU and Student Wellness Center staff in emergent situations and regarding ongoing care of high-acuity students. Collaborate and develop working relationships with the campus community, police/first responders, medical providers, and local mental health resources/hospitals
- Program Management: Evaluate current crisis protocols, seek guidance from key stakeholders, develop and implement new crisis protocols and procedures. Create and deliver educational seminars to build student resiliency and coping skills. Promote engagement, including populations who are traditionally underserved, with formal mental health services and other supportive resources.
ACCOUNTABILITY TO RESULTS
- Project Results: Report contacts and services performed to Director of Advocacy and Health and Office of Sponsored Programs. Follow SAMHSA Grant guidelines to maintain compliance and good-standing with grant requirements.
- 90-Day Rocks: Develop initiatives to enhance student wellness services that line up with CMU core values.

CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge and Skills: Extensive knowledge of mental health, trauma, and crisis care. Experience in case management, psychiatric holds, and hospitalization process.
- Emotional Intelligence and Cultural Communication: Strong interpersonal skills are required to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and external partners. The candidate must have the ability to support students from diverse backgrounds with empathy and professionalism. This position requires being comfortable working in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
- Heart Capacity: A commitment to promoting health, well-being, and academic success for all students. The Crisis Clinician must foster a positive and inclusive environment and advocate for students facing personal challenges.
- Effort and Hours: This position requires flexibility, including travel for professional development and grant opportunities, as well as occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
- Capacity for Leadership: The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead teams, develop programming, and collaborate with a range of campus and community partners.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE FOR RIGHT FIT
- Required: Must be a CMU employee.
- Experience: Minimum of two years working in the mental health field.
- Education: Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution in counseling or related field. Current and unrestricted license as a Colorado Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
- Desired Expertise: Experience working with diverse student populations, managing health services contracts, and working with individuals in mental health crisis
