Somerset County Children & Youth

As mandated by the Public Welfare Code, this agency provides services to children, ages birth-18, aimed at maintaining and increasing family stability, keeping children with their families, and placing the child in a temporary home when necessary. Program staff works closely with private social service agencies, school districts, Drug & Alcohol Commission, Developmental and Behavioral Health Services, and law enforcement agencies. They are in contact with these agencies in referrals, service planning, counseling, protective and adoption services, shelter and foster care, and institutional placement.

Mission Statement
Somerset County Children and Youth Services will utilize educational opportunities to understand the impact of trauma and potential paths for recovery, for employees and families. CYS will strive to keep families together by teaching/empowering them to bring about positive changes in their lives through the use of community resources and promote permanency while protecting children from abuse and neglect and assuring safety.  Employees will act in a professional manner, treating families with dignity, in addition to promoting respect, teamwork, open communication, and trust among co-workers.
